Wissahickon Reunion Cruise on Norwegian

WHS - Reunion Cruise

April 6 to 10, 2027 · New York to Bermuda aboard the Norwegian Luna

The 50th reunion came and went, and everybody said the same thing on the way out: not enough time. A few hours in a room cannot cover fifty years. You get through the headlines and then somebody has to catch a flight.

So Iris Roseman Carter and a few classmates worked out something better.

Four nights at sea out of New York. Down to Bermuda, and back. Long enough to actually sit with people. Short enough that nobody has to take a week off.

Two days at sea is the whole point

The port stop is Bermuda. The reason to come is the other two days.

Nobody is driving anywhere. Nobody has a reservation to get to. You have breakfast with someone you have not seen since graduation and you are still at the table three hours later because there is nowhere else to be. That afternoon there is a deck chair and the Atlantic and whoever pulls up the chair beside you. Dinner is the whole group, every night, at the same tables or not. You create your own trip.

That is a thing you cannot schedule at a hotel ballroom. It only happens when everyone is on the same ship with nowhere to go.

And then there is Bermuda

Bermuda in April is the island at its best and least crowded. Seventy-two degrees and eight hours of sun. The Easter lilies are up. The whole place is coming out of its quiet season and has not yet filled with summer.

We are in at Royal Naval Dockyard at eight in the morning with eight hours ashore.

Horseshoe Bay is twenty minutes away, and the sand really is pink. April water is bracing rather than warm, which is what the beach bar is for. If you would rather walk than swim, the Dockyard sits inside a nineteenth century fortress with a working glassblower and a rum cake bakery, and St. George's on the far end of the island has been standing since 1612. A ferry, a scooter, or a taxi will take you anywhere on the island in under an hour.

One more thing about April. The humpbacks pass Bermuda that month, running north from the Caribbean. Some years you see them from the boat. It is not promised, but it is worth watching the water.
